Northwind 100 Wind Turbine, Solar Hot Water and Solar Electric System Installed at Heritage Aviation

A wind turbine on-site has been installed at Heritage Aviation, the newly constructed General Aviation Facility at the Burlington International Airport. This 100kW wind turbine is a Northwind 100, manufactured by Northern Power of Barre VT. A solar hot water system and a 25kW solar electric system have also been installed by Heritage Aviation to complete its on-site portfolio of renewable energy generation.

EDP Renovaveis Signs Agreement with JPM Capital Corporation for Lost Lakes Wind Farm

An agreement to secure $90 million of institutional equity financing was signed by EDP Renovaveis through its subsidiary unit, Horizon Wind Energy LLC. This financing is provided by JPM Capital Corporation in exchange for a partial interest in EDP Renovaveis’ 101 megawatt Lost Lakes Wind Farm that was installed at Dickinson County, Iowa in December 2009.

Axion Power International Receives Grant for Development of Battery Energy Storage System

The Pennsylvania Energy Development Authority has awarded a grant to Axion Power International, a developer of lead-carbon PbC batteries. This grant will be utilized to develop and deploy an Axion PowerCube battery energy storage system with the usage of Axion Power International’s proprietary PbC battery technology. This 500 kilowatt PowerCube will be constructed and installed at the New Castle battery manufacturing facility. The PowerCube battery energy storage system will be designed to improve a future solar-powered electric vehicle charging station, a potential wind-powered energy system and a Smart Grid distribution system.

Puget Sound Energy Customers Connect Solar Systems to Utility Grid

Puget Sound Energy has seen a rapid growth of its customers connecting their small business or home solar system to the utility in 2009, making it as the fastest-growing year for renewably energy. With the addition of nearly 200 solar systems installed by its customers, the total number of grid-connected systems has increased to 516 making it the largest producer of renewable energy from customer’s solar arrays in Washington. In the year 2007, the total number of customers connected to the PSE grid was only 100. The total generating capacity from the customer’s solar systems has increased to 2 MW.
