Vac Aero Completes Lean and Green Plant Renovation

VAC AERO's Oakville Thermal Processing Division recently completed an extensive plant re-organization based on lean and green manufacturing concepts. The project included building renovations to create more production space, the addition of new work-handling and production capacity, safety enhancements and energy efficiency improvements in lighting and power consumption. Lean manufacturing techniques that were implemented in the re-organization included Kanban systems, 5S and visual signals.

Steel Packaging Recycling Rates Exceed Plastic, Cartons and Glass in Europe

The latest figures from APEAL (the Association of European Producers of Steel for Packaging) show that 70% of steel packaging is recycled in Europe. This represents over 2.5 million tonnes of food and drinks cans and other steel containers being recycled in 2008, saving 3.9 million tonnes of CO2. According to the latest available data, this places recycling rates for steel above those of other packaging materials such as plastic, beverage cartons and glass (29% , 33% and 62% respectively).

The ENVI clean Bioenergy System from EnviroResolutions will be installed for the first time at the British Columbia based industrial greenhouse, Katatheon Farms. EnviroResolutions is a company that is widely traded on the pink sheets. The Uniconfort 5.8 Megawatt boiler that is used to heat the agricultural greenhouse at Katatheon Farms will be fitted with the ENVI clean Bioenergy System.

National Biodiesel Board Releases Study on the Significance of Biodiesel Tax Incentive

A study conducted by John M. Urbanchuk, a well-known economic analyst was released on 8 December, 2009 by the National Biodiesel Board (NBB). This study highlighted the economic influence of the biodiesel industry and it also focused on the negative impact on the industry if the biodiesel tax credit is allowed to lapse. December 31, 2009 is the allotted date for the expiry of the biodiesel tax incentive.

Solar PV Project of the Year for Ground Mount Award for SunEdison and SkyPower

The leading solar association in Canada, CanSIA presented the “Solar PV Project of the Year for Ground Mount” award to SunEdison and SkyPower. SunEdison, a subsidiary unit of MEMC Electronic materials, shares a partnership with SkyPower. This award was given for the establishment of the largest solar energy park in Ontario known as the First Solar Energy Park in Stone Mills, which is capable of generating 9.1-megawatt of electricity. The award was presented by the Honorable George Smitherman, Deputy Premier and Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of Ontario.

Maryland Selects Constellation Energy to Develop 15.9 MW Solar Photovoltaic Power System

The state of Maryland has selected Constellation Energy to install a 15.9 MW DC (13.5 MW/AC) solar photovoltaic power system under its Generating Clean Horizons initiative. This installation is a major part of 17.1 MW DC (14.5 MW/AC) solar facility to be constructed by Constellation Energy. The solar photovoltaic power system will cost approximately $60 million and will be owned, maintained, and operated by Constellation Energy. The company has taken land on lease from Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg for installing this solar facility. When the installation is completed by December 2012, it will be the largest solar facility in Maryland.

Green Energy Resources Bags $300 Million Biomass Supply Contract

Green Energy Resources announced that it has received a 10-year $300 million biomass supply contract. The biomass will be supplied to coal-burning power generation companies in the US. Power generating companies in the US are seeking Federal permits to conduct coal co-firing tests to comply with the latest EPA rules.

Cleanfield Alternative Energy Renegotiates Joint Venture Agreement with Zhejiang Jingye Technology

Cleanfield Alternative Energy made an announcement that the company is at present renegotiating its joint venture with Zhejiang Jingye Technology. Cleanfield Alternative Energy is a global leader in Vertical Axis Wind Turbine technology solutions. Cleanfield also announced that 40,000 exercisable options were provided to the company’s investor relations consultant. These options will expire on 1st December, 2014 and they can be exercised at a price of $0.21 for a single share.

11 Good Energy Opens G2 Diesel Plant in Magnolia

11 Good Energy has opened its G2 Diesel plant in Magnolia, Ohio.. A total capacity of 16,500,000 gallons is expected to be produced by this plant every year. 11 Good Energy’s fuel is obtained from 99 percent of renewable and natural sources. G2 Diesel has brought about reductions in the maintenance cost and in emissions. An increase in horsepower and fuel efficiency has also been displayed by the G2 Diesel. This was demonstrated through testing. G2 Diesel has the capability of being used along with #2 diesel for any kind of diesel engine application.
