Global Solar, a company known for its unique flexible Copper Indium Gallium diSelenide (CIGS) thin film solar cell technology, has brought out a flexible building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) module called the PowerFLEX BIPV.
Exclusively designed to be used over the industrial and commercial rooftops, this module produces more electric power per rooftop installation than any other solar solution available. The BIPV modules are designed to provide quicker and cost efficient generation of electric power. The company is planning to showcase its new product during the 25th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition and the 5th World Conference on PV Energy Conversion Technology to be held during 6th to 9th Septmber in Valencia Spain.
The PowerFLEX BIPV offered by the company provides 12.6% energy efficiency per aperture which is considered to be the highest for any flexible solar module. The module incorporates a large 5.75 cm x 0.5 cm format and a high 300 W power density to better the power production of other flexible roofing modules and offers 50% more energy and power production than the currently set amorphous silicon standard. The PowerFLEX BIPV module efficiently deals with most of the problems associated with other rooftop modules. The product is light in weight and can be easily fixed over the roof surfaces without the need for making holes over the roof or the need for any hardware fixing solutions and will not create extra wind load over the roof. The exclusive rooftop product is large in size and has high power density to reduce the balance of system costs and increases the aesthetic look of the roofing.
Current industrial research reports show an upward trend for BIPV products and the market is predicted to reach $5.7 billion level by the year 2013.
