Eco-Solution, which is specialized in the treatment of persistent industrial pollutants in the environment, today announces the launch of a new technology platform: this platform is based on the control of Directed Evolution, a technology developed by Eco-Solution for the high-throughput selection of natural variants of microbial strains with improved properties.
This innovative technology, which opens the way to the economic production of renewable energies for the first time, is based on recent discoveries in biology and a technology developed and patented by Eco-Solution. New manipulation tools streamline the selection of natural variants, like the high-throughput screening systems used to discover pharmacologically active molecules.
The first application targeted by this innovation is the production of biofuels from microalgae, micro-organisms that utilize solar energy as their one and only energy source. The technology also has applications in other sectors of activity in which Eco-Solution operates, such as the treatment of persistent pollutants in waste water, soil and sediments and the improvement of biomass development processes.
"This high-throughput platform has enabled Eco-Solution to make substantial progress in the development of algae-based fuels," said Dominique Duvauchelle, the Chairman of Eco-Solution. "The production of microalgae-based fuels is a novel response to the limitation of mineral resources and the problems posed by agro-fuels, which consume agricultural resources that are normally devoted to food production."
