SunEdison Secures OPIC Funding for Boshof Solar Park Project in South Africa

Leading global solar energy services and technology provider SunEdison, Inc., through its South African affiliate, (collectively "SunEdison") today announced it had secured R1.8 billion (US$185 million) in foreign debt funding from the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC). This amounts to 75% of the R2.4 billion project cost for the Boshof Solar Park Project ("Boshof"), located in South Africa's Free State province near Kimberley.

Green Plains Enters Acquisition Deal for BioFuel Energy’s Two Ethanol Plants

Green Plains Renewable Energy, Inc. today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire two ethanol plants of BioFuel Energy Corp. ("BIOF") from an entity composed of its lender group. The ethanol plants are located in Wood River, NE and Fairmont, MN. BIOF had previously agreed to transfer the ethanol plants to the lender group entity pursuant to a deed in lieu of foreclosure.

Southern Power-Turner Renewable Energy Partnership to Acquire 20 MW Adobe Solar Facility

Southern Company subsidiary Southern Power today announced an agreement to acquire the company's second solar photovoltaic (PV) installation in California – the 20-megawatt (MW) Adobe Solar Facility – in partnership with Turner Renewable Energy. The Southern Power-Turner Renewable Energy partnership's sixth solar project acquisition is expected to close upon the successful completion of construction, which is anticipated in spring 2014.

ABB and Bondfield Selected by Canadian Solar to Supply 100 MW Solar PV Power Plant

Canadian Solar Inc. ("the "Company", or "Canadian Solar"), one of the world's largest solar power companies, today announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Canadian Solar Solutions Inc. ("Canadian Solar Solutions"), has selected ABB Inc. ("ABB"), a world leader in power and automation technologies, and its consortium partner Bondfield Construction Company Limited ("Bondfield"), a leading full-service construction company, to supply a 100 megawatt (MW) turnkey solar photovoltaic ("PV") power plant for the previously announced Grand Renewable Energy Project in cooperation with Samsung Renewable Energy Inc. ("Samsung") and Connor Clark & Lunn Infrastructure.

Kyocera Launches 70 MW Kagoshima Nanatsujima Mega Solar Power Plant

Kyocera Corporation (President: Goro Yamaguchi) today announced the launch of a 70 megawatt (MW) solar power plant in Kagoshima Prefecture, southern Japan. The Kagoshima Nanatsujima Mega Solar Power Plant went online on November 1 and is being operated by a special purpose company established by Kyocera and six other companies to sell the electricity to a local utility under Japan's feed-in-tariff (FIT) program.

California Will Not be Able to Meet 2050 Greenhouse Gas Targets

California is on track to meet its state-mandated targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions for 2020, but it will not be able to meet its 2050 target without bold new technologies and policies. This is the conclusion of the California Greenhouse Gas Inventory Spreadsheet (GHGIS), a new model developed by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) to look at how far existing policies and technologies can get us in emissions reductions.

New Method Assesses Potential Impacts of Offshore Wind Farm Construction on Marine Mammal Populations

Growth in offshore wind generation is expected to play a major role in meeting carbon reduction targets around the world, but the impact of construction noise on marine species is yet unknown. A group of scientists from the United Kingdom and the United States have developed a method to assess the potential impacts of offshore wind farm construction on marine mammal populations, particularly the noise made while driving piles into the seabed to install wind turbine foundations. Their work is published in the November issue of Environmental Impact Assessment Review.
