Canadian Solar Receives Contract to Supply 1.78MW to KAPSARC Solar Project, Saudi

Canadian Solar Inc. (the "Company", or "Canadian Solar"), one of the world's largest solar power companies, today announced that it has been awarded a contract to supply 1.78MW to Saudi Aramco's KAPSARC ("King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center") solar power project in Saudi Arabia.

Volvo Environment Prize Awarded to Chinese Glaciologist and Climate Scientist

The Chinese glaciologist and climate scientist Dr. Qin Dahe has been awarded this year’s Volvo Environment Prize. The award winner is a key contributor to the fifth assessment report from the UN climate panel (IPPC), whose first section, the “Physical Science Basis”, was released in September. He attracted wide attention last year with a report on how climate change leads to more extreme weather events.

Suntech to Showcase its 1500V Frameless PV Module at Solar Power International

Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd., ("Suntech" or the "Company"), one of the world's largest solar companies, will showcase its 1,500V frameless photovoltaic module at the Solar Power International (SPI) Exhibition in Chicago, Illinois. This higher voltage module, engineered for utility-scale and commercial applications, lowers balance of system costs. Suntech's 1,500V frameless PV module will be on display at booth #243.

Governor Pat Quinn, Shedd Aquarium Begin Clean-Energy Initiative with Installation of 913 PV Solar Panels in Illinois

Governor Pat Quinn and Shedd Aquarium today kicked off the first phase of the institution's clean-energy initiative with the installation of 913 photovoltaic solar panels on top of the aquarium's world-class marine mammal pavilion. In an event held on the roof of the Abbott Oceanarium, the Governor, along with Shedd leadership and Illinois sustainability champions, unveiled the 265-kilowatt project that is the biggest solar installation in any cultural institution in the state of Illinois funded through a public and private partnership.

A little amount of appropriately prepared powder is poured in water polluted with phenol and cellulose. A bit of the sun and after fifteen minutes harmful compounds disappear, and the powder can be filtered off and reused. Sounds like a fairy tale? Perhaps, but it is not magic, only a masterly use of chemistry and physics by researchers from the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw.
