SunPower to Use Ice Energy’s Storage Technology in a Californian Project

Ice Energy, a smart-grid enabled advance level energy storage solution provider for electric utility companies, has announced that it is working along with SunPower Corp on a unique California Public Utilities commission funded project that will merge Ice Bear energy storage technology of the company with that of photovoltaic solar systems manufactured by SunPower.

China to Invest in Hydro Power Generation in Kyrgyzstan

In a recently conducted press conference Osmonbek Artykbekov, Energy Minister of Kyrgyzstan said that China has expressed its willingness to invest around $200 million for constructing three hydroelectric power production facilities in Kyrgyzstan with capabilities to produce around 165 MW of hydro power. The power generation facilities will be constructed over Boom and Kemin rivers.

British Wind Power Reaches Maximum Power Production

Britain has recorded its maximum wind generation output last Monday. According to the information provided by the National Grid during the 24 hour period the country produced 40.5 GWh of electric power from wind generation out of the total used power of 809.5 GWh.

Toho Tenax Launches Carbon Fiber Gas Diffusion Layer for Fuel Cells

Toho Tenax Co. Ltd., the core company of the Teijin Group's carbon fibers business, announced today that it has developed a gas diffusion layer (GDL) made of a carbon fiber fabric for use as an electrode component for fuel cells. The new GDL will be marketed from late September.

Enzyme Discovery Makes Biofuel Easier to Produce

Researchers funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) have discovered key plant enzymes that normally make the energy stored in wood, straw, and other non-edible parts of plants difficult to extract. The findings, published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, can be used to improve the viability of sustainable biofuels that do not adversely affect the food chain.

Researchers Develop Hydrogen Powered Electric Bicycle

A hydrogen-powered electric bicycle prototype has been developed by researchers at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and Hydrogen South Africa (HySA). Known as A Hi Fambeni (“Let’s go” in Tsonga), the bicycle contains fuels cells that create a clean source of power by combining oxygen and heat.
