Training on PV Design and Installation Available Online

Sify Technologies announced that it has launched its first online training course in partnership with Solar Living Institute (SLI), a non-profit organization based in U.S. The online course, which is titled ‘PV Design and Installation Training’, is currently offered in English for the U.S. market. The company said that the course will be translated and offered soon for other markets such as China, India, and Latin America.

Dow Chemical Company Selects Michigan to Locate Solar Shingle Manufacturing Facility

The Dow Chemical Company announced that it has identified Midland in Michigan to locate its full-scale manufacturing facility to produce its groundbreaking DOW POWERHOUSE Solar Shingle and it is subject to finalizing funding from local, state and federal agencies. Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm in her State of the State address talked about the site selection and said that this could create more than 1,200 jobs in the region.

Aker Solutions to Construct 50-MW Biomass Renewable Energy Plant for RWE in Scotland

RWE has awarded a contract to Aker Solutions to construct a new 50-MW biomass renewable energy power plant in Scotland. The project is located at the Tullis Russell Papermakers plant near Fife. The contract awarded to Aker Solutions includes from designing to commissioning of the plant. Major plant items except flue gas systems and fluidized bed boiler are covered in the contract. Metso Power will provide the flue gas systems and fluidized bed boiler. The total value of the contract to Aker Solutions is GBP 115 million.

U.S. Hospitals Sign Clean Energy Contracts

Three hospitals in U.S. have signed contracts that will help them to save more than $1.7 million in energy costs and provide them clean energy of up to 10%. The clean energy provided for the hospitals will prevent 11,829 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions from being released to the environment. The emission prevented is equal to removing 2,052 cars from the roads. Clean Energy Solutions program was established by Practice Greenhealth to enable the health sector in the U.S to change to renewable energy sources and the first participants in this program are these three hospitals.

Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has selected SmartSynch to provide smart metering solution for a distributed renewable generation program called Generation Partners. TVA’s local power companies that distribute its energy offer this program to both commercial and residential end-use customers. Wind Power Capacity Installed in EU is Largest Than Any Other Power Technology in 2009

According to the data published by European Wind Energy Association (EWEA), wind power accounts for 39% of new installed capacity in the EU during the year 2009. When compared to other power technologies, wind power is largest installed capacity followed by gas with 26%. Solar photovoltaic installations accounted for 16%.
