Minnesota Power Acquires Direct Current Line for Renewable Energy Transmission

Minnesota Power, an ALLETE company, has purchased a 465-mile direct current transmission line from the Square Butte Electric Cooperative for approximately $70 million. The 250-kilovolt line purchased by Minnesota Power connects its Arrowhead Substation in Hermantown, Minnesota with Center, North Dakota.

Hoku Materials and Shanghai Alex New Energy announced the amendment of the polysilicon supply agreement between the two companies. Hoku Materials, a subsidiary unit of Hoku Scientific, is engaged in manufacturing and selling polysilicon for the solar market. Shanghai Alex New Energy manufactures solar modules, photovoltaic products and crystalline silicon solar cells in China.

Agreement Signed for Thin-Film Photovoltaic Panel Manufacturing Plant by Enel Green Power, Sharp and STMicroelectronics

An agreement was signed by Enel Green Power, Sharp and STMicroelectronics for the manufacture of triple-junction thin-film photovoltaic panels in Italy. Enel Green Power and Sharp had signed a Memorandum of Understanding in this regard in May 2008. STMicroelectronics has joined the partnership for the manufacture of photovoltaic panels. In addition to the manufacturing agreement, Enel Green Power and Sharp has signed another agreement to develop solar farms jointly.

Bella Energy Introduces Solar Financing Program in Colorado

Solar financing has been introduced in Colorado by Bella Energy, a Colorado-based solar integrator. Solar financing for faith communities and non-profits is now made available by Community Solar Partners, which is a solar financing program that took almost 3 years to be fully established. This program enables the faith communities and non-profits to make vital infrastructure investments while reducing the price of solar investments by about 30 percent. The 21-kW solar energy system that was recently completed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, of Denver, CO was the first project that was financed under this program.
