Interstate Power and Light Initiates Commercial Operation at Whispering Willow Wind Farm-East

Commercial operation in the Whispering Willow Wind Farm-East in Franklin County has been initiated by Interstate Power and Light (IPL), a subsidiary unit of Alliant Energy Corporation. This wind farm in Iowa is the first to be owned and operated by Interstate Power and Light. The wind farm is capable of generating emission-free wind energy of up to 200 megawatts, which is enough to power almost 50,000 homes.

LDK Solar Signs Contract to Supply Solar Modules to Enfinity

LDK Solar announced that it has signed a contract with Enfinity, a Belgium-based company, to supply solar modules. LDK Solar, a top listed manufacturer of solar wafers, made this announcement on 14 December, 2009. An estimated amount of 50 megawatts of solar modules are to be delivered to Enfinity in the year 2010, according to the terms mentioned in the signed contract.

Nexans Bags 100 Million Euro Power Cable Contract for the London Array Wind Farm Project

A contract valued at about 100 million Euros was won by Nexans, the global leader in the cable industry. Through this contract Nexans was given the task to design, manufacture and supply high voltage subsea power export cables that will be used to connect the London Array wind farm to the UK grid. The London Array wind farm is being installed on a 233 km2 site that is located 20 km away from the UK coast in the Thames Estuary.

The Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC) Foundation and Whole Energy Fuels Corporation are now ready to market an innovative cellulosic biofuel technology. The global licensing rights for EERC’s Foundation technology have been received by Whole Energy. The stationary fuel cell market in the Asia Pacific region earned revenues of $142 million in 2008 and is expected to achieve $1.9 billion in 2015 according to new analysis from Frost & Sullivan. The revenues in the portable fuel cell segment for the year 2008 were $1 million and are expected to reach $12 million in 2015.

GE and Plutonic Power Corporation to Resume Construction of Dokie Wind Project

GE Energy Financial Services, a unit of GE, and Plutonic Power Corporation have jointly contributed C$52.5 million to purchase the fully permitted Dokie Wind Project from EarthFirst Canada Inc. The construction of the 300 MW wind project will be resumed by the companies. This wind project is regarded as the largest wind farm in British Columbia, and is located 1,100 kilometers northeast of Vancouver.

Reykjanes Geothermal Power Plant Developed by Enex

Reykjanes geothermal power plant, developed by Enex, utilized two 50 MW turbines in order to produce 100 MW of electricity. Owned by HS Orka, this geothermal power plant is one of the first in the world to use such high temperature geothermal fluids. Once the brine has been extracted from the wells, it is sent to a steam separator. After the separation process, the steam is sent to a dryer under pressure conditions of 19 bars. Next, the steam is sent directly to the two 50 MW turbines.
