Canadian Solar Enters Sales Agreement for Four Utility-Scale Solar Plants in Ontario

Canadian Solar Inc. (the "Company", or "Canadian Solar"), one of the world's largest solar power companies, today announced that its subsidiary, Canadian Solar Solutions Inc., has entered into a sales agreement with a fund managed by DIF ("DIF"), whereby DIF will acquire from Canadian Solar four utility-scale solar power plants located in Ontario, Canada, totaling 40 MWAC at a valuation comparable to other recent project sales completed by Canadian Solar on a per megawatt basis in the Ontario market.

Researchers Work on Developing Advanced Biocatalyst Technologies for Biofuel Production

Researchers at Sandia National Laboratories will use their expertise in protein expression, enzyme engineering and high-throughput assays as part of a multiproject, $34 million effort by the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) aimed at developing advanced biocatalyst technologies that can convert natural gas to liquid fuel for transportation.

Global Emissions from Burning Fossil Fuels Set to Rise Again in 2013

Global emissions of carbon dioxide from burning fossil fuels are set to rise again in 2013, reaching a record high of 36 billion tonnes - according to new figures from the Global Carbon Project, co-led by researchers from the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research at the University of East Anglia (UEA).

Efficient Extraction of Uranium from Seawater Using Novel Sorbents

Uranium mining for the nuclear industry causes immense environmental damage, which becomes more severe as reserves are depleted. The isolation of uranium from seawater would be a much more environmentally friendly alternative. In the journal Angewandte Chemie, American researchers have now introduced a process by which they can produce tailored, highly effective adsorption agents to do this job.

EBI's Initiative to Develop Natural Gas Public Service Stations Receives Gaz Métro’s Praises

Gaz Métro salutes EBI's initiative to establish a network of public service stations that will supply natural gas as fuel. The Gaz Métro network is contributing to the project by distributing, at the company's fuelling stations, the renewable natural gas produced by EBI in Berthierville. Gaz Métro is pleased to use its gas network to link producers and consumers in order to facilitate access to locally produced renewable natural gas.

Aluminum Beverage Can Industry Recycles 178,099 Pounds of Cans to Raise $133,695 for Charities

The aluminum beverage can industry raised $133,695 for local charities by recycling 178,099 pounds of cans, which equates to more than 5.7 million beverage cans, for the Can Manufacturers Institute's (CMI) Great American Can RoundUp Industry Challenge. Ball Corporation came in first place in the annual competition by recycling nearly 50 percent of the entire amount collected – 88,473 pounds of cans. Rexam and Crown Holdings came in second and third place, respectively.

GoMRI to Fund Study on Impact of Hydrocarbon Releases on the Environment and Public Health

The Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative (GoMRI) announced today that it plans to award up to $105 million to support research consortia investigating the effect, and the potential associated impact, of hydrocarbon releases on the environment and public health, as well as to develop improved spill mitigation, oil detection, characterization, and remediation technologies.
