Alcoa and Bauer Enter Agreement to Commercialize Natural Engineered Wastewater Treatment Technology

Alcoa has entered into an agreement with Germany-based engineering and construction company, Bauer Resources GmbH, to commercialize Alcoa’s Natural Engineered Wastewater Treatment technology that mimics natural wetlands to sustainably treat wastewaters. Under the agreement, Bauer will use Alcoa’s engineered wetlands technology to deploy wastewater treatment systems globally.

Brookhaven Lab’s Interdisciplinary Science Building for Energy Research Awarded LEED Gold Rating

The Interdisciplinary Science Building (ISB) for energy research, the newest facility to open at the U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory, has been awarded a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold rating for being "green." The U.S. Green Building Council awarded this designation for the ISB's energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable design, construction, and operations. The ISB is one of nine buildings at Brookhaven Lab to receive LEED certification.

EDF Renewable Energy Acquires Longhorn North Wind Project from RES Americas

EDF Renewable Energy announces it has acquired the Longhorn North Wind Project from Renewable Energy Systems Americas Inc. (RES Americas). RES Americas will construct Longhorn, its 18th renewable energy project in Texas, under a Balance of Plant (BOP) agreement. Construction on the 200 megawatt (MW) project will begin in time to qualify it for the Production Tax Credit (PTC) and is expected to be completed at the end of 2014.

Narcotics Substances and Drugs Traced in Wastewater from Swedish Sewage Treatment Plants

Chemists at Umeå University in Sweden have been able to trace narcotics substances and prescription drugs in measurements of wastewater from 33 Swedish sewage treatment plants. Cocaine, amphetamine, and methamphetamine, in measurable concentrations, were found in a total of half of the locations.

BASF and Renmatix to Scale up Plantrose Process for Production of Lignocellulosic Biomass-Based Industrial Sugars

BASF, Ludwigshafen, Germany, and American technology provider Renmatix Inc. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, will jointly scale up the Renmatix Plantrose process for the production of industrial sugars based on lignocellulosic biomass.
