Assyce Fotovoltaica Builds Largest First Solar Free-Field Solar Power Plant in Spain

Assyce Fotovoltaica, a system integrator in Spain, is building the biggest First Solar free-field solar power facility in Spain. The power plant, which is located in Extremadura, covers 69 hectares of land area and the capacity of the plant is more than 26 MWp. When the power facility is completed by the end of 2010, it will produce more than 42 million kWh of electricity per annum.

BP Oil International Limited and Four Rivers BioEnergy Sign Biodiesel Sales Agreement

Four Rivers BioFuels Limited, the UK subsidiary of Four Rivers BioEnergy Inc., has signed an agreement with BP’s wholly owned subsidiary, BP Oil International Limited for the sale of EN 14214 specification biodiesel from its facility in UK. As per the agreement, the company will be selling a minimum quantity of 60,000 metric tonnes of this blended diesel for an initial term of five years.

An affordable housing project, Irvine Inn, in Southern California has turned green with the installation of a solar power system by Solar Electrical Systems of Westlake Village in California. The apartment building is located in Orange County, California. This solar initiative was carried out as part of California Solar Initiative's Multifamily Affordable Solar Housing (MASH) program.

Servidyne Signs its Largest Energy Efficiency Contract

Servidyne, an energy efficiency improvement company, announced that it has signed its largest ever energy efficiency contract till date with a major retailer in the United States to significantly improve energy efficiency in about 600 of its distribution centers and stores. The total revenue from the contract is estimated to be $8.7 million. The project should commence at once and be completed within the next 12 to 24 months.

E20 Fuel Achieves 20% Reduction of Hydrocarbon and Carbon Monoxide Emissions in Automobiles: Study

The use of E20 fuel, which is a blend of 20% ethanol with gasoline, in automobiles reduces the emissions of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons when compared with E10 fuel or ordinary gasoline, according to a research by the Center for Integrated Manufacturing Studies at Rochester Institute of Technology. The performance of the vehicle with regard to its drivability or maintenance of the traditional internal combustion engines were also not affected by using this fuel, according to the study.

New European Group for Crystalline Solar Cells Formed

Eight crystalline solar cell manufacturers in Europe have come together to form a new crystalline cell technology and manufacturing group (CTM) in order to address the challenges faced by the photovoltaic industry. This was announced by the SEMI PV Group Europe at the 4th Photovoltaic Fab Managers Forum that was held in Berlin on 8th March. The founding group comprises Deutsche Cell, Q Cells, Solland, SCHOTT Solar, Sunways, Bosch Solar Energy, Sovello, and SolarWatt/Systaic Cells.

Öko-Test Awards “Very Good” Rating for SCHOTT Solar’s Photovoltaic Modules

Öko-Test, a German magazine, awarded a “Very Good” rating for SCHOTT Solar’s photovoltaic solar modules. The magazine in partnership with another journal, Photon, evaluated 15 polycrystalline and monocrystalline solar modules from international and German manufacturers for their performance and potential defects.
