BioSolar announced plans to produce an expanded line of BioBacksheets that are used for PV modules protection. The new line of BioBacksheets can be used for conventional c-Si PV modules. BioSolar produces bio-based materials that enable the cost of PV solar modules to be reduced.

Ballard Power Systems Receives Department of Energy Funding for Fuel Cell Research

U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded $6.2 million in project funding to Ballard Power Systems under a four-year contract. Ballard Power Systems’ U.S. subsidiary, Ballard Material Products, was awarded $4.1 million for research to improve the durability of fuel cells. In addition, U.S. technology organizations that carry out fuel cell research with DOE funds will engage Ballard as sub-contractor.

SunRise Solar manufactures an extensive range of solar attic fans. The SunRise 850 solar attic fan comprises thin film solar panels. The weatherproof nature of the solar panel makes it tolerant to extreme weather conditions. These solar panels have the capability to produce power even during overcast conditions. Solar panels incorporated in the SunRise 850 solar attic fan produce a maximum power of 11 watts. The SunRise 850 solar attic fan has a total weight of 15 pounds with a height of 7 inches. The top portion of the solar attic fan measures 25.5 inches X 21.25 inches, while the flat base has dimensions of 24.5 inches X 24.5 inches.

AMSC Receives $10 Million Follow-On Wind Turbine Core Electrical Component Order from CSR-ZELRI in China

American Superconductor Corporation (AMSC) has received an additional $10 million follow-on order from CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Research Institute Co., Ltd. (CSR-ZELRI) in China to supply wind turbine core electrical components. CSR-ZELRI will utilize the core components in the AMSC Windtec-designed 1.65 MW wind turbines. AMSC Windtec is a 100% subsidiary company of AMSC. The shipment of the core components is expected to be completed by the end of 2010, according to AMSC.

SunLink Begins Shipping Roof Module Mounting System for Largest Municipal Solar Installation

SunLink Corporation has started shipping its roof module mounting system for the biggest municipal solar installation in the country. Recurrent Energy, a leading solar power projects developer, has chosen SunLink for this project, which is located on the Sunset Reservoir in San Francisco. The 5-MW project will utilize SunLink’s roof mount solution for installing more than 23,000 solar modules from Suntech. The system will be mounted on the retrofitted flat rooftop of the reservoir.
