SunPower to Supply High-Efficiency Solar Panels to Toshiba

SunPower announced that it has signed a strategic solar supply agreement with Toshiba Corporation to deliver high-efficiency solar panels totaling 32 MW during the year 2010. Toshiba Corporation is set to launch a residential solar offering in Japan on April 1 and these solar panels from SunPower will be utilized for the new offering.

Canadian Solar Installs First Ontario Power Authority Approved microFIT Solar System at its Headquarters in the City of Kitchener

Canadian Solar has installed the first OPA (Ontario Power Authority) approved microFIT (feed-in-tariff) solar system at its headquarters in the City of Kitchener. The 3.2 kW DC solar system from the company was installed on the office building, which is already a designated green building, that uses half the energy and water when compared to a commercial building.

Solutia Signs Definitive Agreement to Acquire Etimex Solar

Solutia Inc. announced a definitive agreement to acquire Etimex Holding’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Etimex Solar, has been reached. Solutia will acquire the company for euro 240 million to be paid from its cash reserves and through additional debt. Ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) encapsulants are being supplied by Etimex Solar to the PV market. The purchase of Etimex Solar is in line with Solutia’s strategic plan to enhance its performance materials and specialty chemicals portfolio.

SolarWorld to Acquire 29% Stake in Qatar Solar Technologies

SolarWorld is purchasing 29% of shares in Qatar Solar Technologies, as part of a new joint venture. The other partners in this joint venture include Qatar Foundation holding a 70% stake and the Qatar Development Bank with 1% of the shares. The new joint venture, which has its headquarters in the Emirate of Qatar, will develop the first manufacturing plant for polysilicon in Arabia.

European's Jointly Pursue Renewable Energy, Bio-Based Products and Sustainable Construction

Europe's research driven clusters in sustainable forest management and wood based industries got new co-operation opportunities within the ROKFOR project which started 23 February 2010. This cooperative action project ‘Sustainable Forest Management Providing Renewable Energy, Sustainable Construction and Bio-based Products' (ROKFOR) will join forces in which five European regions in order to create both individual and regional research agendas and action plans in the fields of renewable energy, bio-based products and sustainable construction.
