Architectural Firm Commits to Bayer MaterialScience Energy Efficient and Economic Building Program

The planquadrat office of architects Herbert Elfers, Martin Geskes and Jörg Krämer is to become a new network member in Bayer MaterialScience's EcoCommercial Building program. The two parties recently signed an agreement to this effect. It is the first time that an architectural practice has committed itself to the global Premium program for energy-efficient and economic building that Bayer MaterialScience has developed for the planning and construction of commercial, industrial and office buildings, and operates jointly with its partners.

McPhy Energy to Pioneer Renewable Hydrogen Technology

McPhy Energy, a leading company in solid state hydrogen storage technology, has signed a research contract with CEA Liten (Laboratory of Innovation for New Energy Technologies and Nanomaterials), one of the leading European research centers dedicated to new energy technologies. The purpose of this agreement is to manufacture two full size magnesium hydride storage prototypes and to test them at industrial scale. During the test campaign, they will be coupled to an electrolyser and a fuel cell simulating a real-world renewable energy storage application.

Soot-Free Diesel Derived from Industrial Waste

Diesel has two drawbacks: it leads to fine particles (soot) and is made of a raw material becoming exhausted: oil. TU/e researcher Michael Boot developed a new diesel type (Cyclox), which emits far less soot. The raw material for this comes from industrial waste. Doubly 'green' then, this new biodiesel. In addition, this raw material may serve to make nylon. On April 20 Boot will defend his dissertation at Eindhoven University of Technology.
