Solution to the Problem of Cleaning Cooling Water from Nuclear Reactors

Together with his colleague Sevilimendu Narasimhan from the Bhabha Atomic Research Center in Kalpakkam, India, the chemist PD Dr. Börje Sellergren from the Institute of Environmental Research at Technische Universität Dortmund has developed a new method to reduce the amount of this radioactive waste in nuclear reactor cooling water considerably. His approach: small beads consisting of a special polymer which "fishes" the radioactivity out of the water.

Better Place Australia Receive Funding for Electric Vehicle Network Powered by Renewable Energy

Better Place Australia today announced it has secured an initial round of funding of $25 million for its planned charging and services network for electric vehicles (EVs). The funding round was led by Lend Lease Ventures, the venture capital arm of Lend Lease and included investments by ActewAGL and several private investors.

EDF EN Canada Announces Signing of Framework Agreement with REpower for Turbine Projects

EDF EN Canada announced on 26 November, 2009 about the signing of a framework agreement by EDF Energies Nouvelles and RES Canada with REpower, a German turbine supplier. According to the agreement, REpower will supply turbines with the electricity generating capacity of 954 MW. The turbines will be used for five wind projects in Quebec. These turbine projects are developed by Saint-Laurent Energies, which is jointly owned by RES Canada, and EDF EN Canada.

Steffen Bohm and Siddhartha Dabhi Question Measures Taken to Reduce Greenhouse Gases

Dr. Steffen Bohm and Siddhartha Dabhi from the Essex Business School have written a book titled, ‘Upsetting the Offset: The Political Economy of Carbon Markets’, which was the outcome of the dissatisfaction that the global carbon markets have not really helped in reducing greenhouse emissions. This book comments on the increasing number of problems brought about by the steps taken to reduce the emission of carbon after the Kyoto Protocol Treaty, and it also consists of views from 30 experts, which are related to this issue of green house gas emissions.

This press conference will take place on 30 November, 2009 as simultaneous preparations are done by international leaders who will be participating in UN Climate Summit in December 2009.

Canadian Pacific partners with Natural Resources Canada for biodiesel fuel pilot project

Canadian Pacific has partnered with Natural Resources Canada, under the National Renewable Diesel Demonstration Initiative, to carry out a pilot project on biodiesel. Lee Richardson, Member of Parliament for Calgary Centre announced this on behalf of Fred Green, Canadian Pacific President and CEO and Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister for Natural Resources, and this is the first time biodiesel will be used in Canadian cold-weather rail service.
