Solutia Supply Synthetic Heat Transfer Fluids to Polysilicon Manufacturing Plant in China

Solutia Inc. announced today that it supplied Therminol® D12 and Therminol 66 synthetic heat transfer fluids to a new state of the art 15,000 metric ton solar grade high purity polysilicon manufacturing plant in Xinyu City, China. The facility is owned and operated by LDK Solar and came online in the fall of 2009.

Sapphire Energy Receives Award for Green Crude from Algae

Sapphire Energy has received an award of $104.5 million for its efficient energy work. Sapphire Energy, which is considered as a leading company in algae-based fuel technology, received this award, as a part of President Obama’s American Recovery and Investment Act and the Biorefinery Assistant Program, which gained its authorization through the Farm Bill of 2008. The US Department of Energy issued this grant for $50 million and the US Department of Agriculture issued the loan guarantee for $54.5 million.

The Combined Heat and Energy Projects Receive Grants from Green Energy Works Program

Governor Edward G. Rendell made an announcement on 4 December, 2009 about the nine large-scale heat and power projects that are expected to generate sufficient power for 180,000 homes every year along with a reduction in the emission of carbon dioxide. Power distribution works will be stabilized and new jobs will be created with the development of these new projects. Pennsylvania’s Green Energy Works! Program through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will provide more than $12 million towards the development of the combined heat and power projects (CHP).

Connecticut Science Center Utilizes Fuel Cell Technology for Clean Energy

Fuel cell will be providing the majority of energy needs for Connecticut Science Center. This science center, located in downtown Hartford, becomes the first science center in the country to adopt the fuel cell clean energy strategy. Almost 100% of energy needed for the Connecticut Science Center will be met by fuel cell annually. The 200kW fuel cell will deliver about two-thirds of the energy requirement of the science center during operating hours. The fuel cell will transfer energy back into the grid when the power demand is less for the science center. In addition, the fuel cell will also be used for providing back-up power.

Oerlikon Solar Utilizes Intergraph SmartPlant 3D and P+ID Engineering Software

Oerlikon Solar has selected Intergraph SmartPlant 3D and P&ID engineering software to increase the production of thin film silicon solar modules in a cost-effective manner. The P&ID engineering software and the Intergraph SmartPlant 3D has been selected in order to speed up the completion of the plant and to bring about an increase in the productivity rate. Oerlikon Solar will utilize these two softwares to produce a large quantity of thin film silicon solar modules.
